Supplemental Income Benefits (SIBs) are paid monthly by the insurance carrier after your Impairment Income Benefits (IIBs) have ended.
To get SIBS, you must:
- have an impairment rating of 15% or more;
- have not returned to work, or if you did, have earned less than 80% of the average weekly wage in your position because of your injury;
- show that you are looking for work; and
- not accept a lump sum payment for your injury.
How much will I get paid?
SIBs are 80% of what you get when you subtract the difference between 80% of your average weekly wage (AWW) and any wages you got after your work-related injury.
If you get paid during a 13-week qualifying period, those wages are subtracted from your SIBs.
To find out how much you could get call 800-252-7031, option 1.
When will I get SIBs?
Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) will let you know if you are able to get SIBs, and can help you apply for the first quarter. DWC will decide if you get SIBs for the first quarter, the insurance company will decide on the other quarters.
If your application for SIBs is denied, and you disagree with the decision, you can request a Benefit Review Conference by submitting a DWC Form-045, Request to Schedule, Reschedule, or Cancel a Benefit Review Conference (BRC), or to Proceed Directly to Contested Case Hearing (CCH).
If you need help, call DWC at 800-252-7031, option 1.
