Introducing the new Benefits Estimator tool

Benefits estimator

At the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC), we are committed to supporting injured employees and ensuring they have the tools they need to navigate the complexities of workers' compensation. We are proud to introduce a new, user-friendly tool designed to help injured employees and their families quickly estimate their income and death benefits.

What is the Benefits Estimator tool?

The Benefits Estimator is a convenient online resource that allows injured employees to estimate their workers' compensation benefits with ease. Whether you're recovering from an injury or need to understand the potential benefits for a deceased loved one, this tool provides an estimate based on details you provide.

How does it work?

The tool is designed to be simple and intuitive. If you know the injured employee’s average weekly wage (AWW), put that amount into the tool to estimate potential income benefits. If you're unsure of the employee's AWW, you can use the built-in AWW estimator. The estimate is based on the wage information you provide.

Accessible anywhere, anytime

The tool works on both laptops and mobile devices. This means injured employees and their families can access the tool from the comfort of their home, office, or even on-the-go.

Types of benefits you can estimate

The tool can estimate two types of benefits:

  • Income benefits: These benefits are paid to an injured employee who is unable to work due to a work-related injury. By entering wages or using the AWW calculator, the tool will estimate the weekly income benefits the employee may be able to get while they recover, including:
    • Temporary income benefits.
    • Impairment income benefits.
    • Supplemental income benefits.
    • Lifetime income benefits.
  • Death benefits: For families who have lost a loved one due to a workplace injury, this tool can help estimate the death benefits that may be payable to surviving dependents.

Where to find the tool

The new Benefits Estimator is on the TDI website. If you need help, contact DWC at 800-252-7031.
